Uploading Images

The Upload Image or Upload Folder buttons in the Unprocessed panel are used to manually upload your scanned form images to the Processing Queue. Images are stored in the Unprocessed Images table until being sent one at a time to the form processor.

  • Click the Upload Image button to upload a single scanned image. Choose the image from your computer's directory.
  • Click the Upload Folder button to upload a folder of form images from your computer.

If a large number of images are uploaded at once they will show as a list in the Unprocessed Images table, until they have been sent to the incoming images table in FormReturn's server.

Unprocessed Images

Any uploaded images still waiting to be processed will queue in the Unprocessed Images table.

processing queue images

Because each image usually takes only a few seconds to process, you often won't notice them in the Unprocessed Images Table. You can look for them in  Captured Data.

If any images haven't been processed then look for them in the Unidentified Images table.

The Form Processor

Images are sent in turn to the Form Processor in FormReturn's server .

The Queue Information in the server, is a timer showing the rate at which images are being processed and the estimated time left.

Unidentified Images

If the detection of any of the barcodes is broken, the form image will be put into the Unidentified images folder.

This could be because the scan quality of the image is poor or something else is interfering with detection of one or all of the barcodes.

Failure Reason: A reason will be given for why the image wasn't identified.

  1. Unable to locate Form ID - The form ID barcode couldn't be detected.
  2. Unable to locate Segment barcodes - The segment barcodes couldn't be detected.
  3. Unable to locate Form page barcode - This means the publication the form image belongs to, no longer exists in Captured Data, so the Form ID barcode has nothing to reconcile with.

Unidentified Images can be manually Reprocessed to make FormReturn recognize the barcode and send the image to the form processor.

Reprocessing Form Images

The Reprocessor in the unidentified images folder, is used to manually over-ride detection errors with the Form ID or Segment barcodes.

The response data can then be processed and sent to Captured Data.

If your forms are often throwing errors, you should do a test preview to make sure your scanner's settings are correct before scanning your forms.

To reprocess an Unidentified image.

  • Select the unrecognized Image from the Unidentified Images table.
  • Click the Reprocess button in the Unidentified panel.

An error dialog will open with the reason why the image wasn't identified.

Unable to Validate Form Page barcode.

The publication this form image belongs to, is no longer stored in Captured Data.

The form template the image belongs to, will have to be re-published before the image can be reprocessed.

The image can then be reprocessed in the same way as Reprocess - Unable to locate Form ID Barcode.

If Fragments aren't aligned

The fragments in this image aren't aligned with each other. The ID grid doesn't align with the question Mark Areas.

To overcome this problem, increase the Fragment padding.

This will make the fragment detection area bigger so that all the fragment edges on the segment are aligned with the checkboxes.
